I believe that music instruction should be enjoyable, built on a solid technical foundation, inspire creativity, and match each individual's goals.
Learning an instrument - like with guitar lessons, for instance - has many proven benefits. Playing music both assists in children's development and enriches the lives of adults.

Acoustic and/or electric guitar.
All styles of music.
Traditionally, guitar has been taught from the musical perspective of the piano. This process requires endless and tedious memorization of chord and scale forms based on how they are constructed on the piano. The piano is a linear instrument. All the notes are laid out in one straight line. The guitar is not structured that way. My approach is to teach from the viewpoint of the guitar fretboard. Based on the CAGED system, there are 5 basic chord and scale forms derived from the primary C, A, G, E, and D chord and scale forms. From these 5 forms, all others can be derived.
This approach applies to all styles of music, whether acoustic or electric with an emphasis on improvisation. Along with teaching music theory, the intent is to allow the student to be able to think when playing, versus just repeating something learned from memory. This opens up the ability to be creative and make one's own music as well as play existing pieces.
The overall goal is to provide a learning process that is enjoyable, and quickly achieves basic playing ability even for guitar lessons for beginners. This ideally will allow the student to truly enjoy the process of learning the instrument and maintain the interest level to learn more.
